    I.  Introduction/Sign In
Kelly Imbert welcomed everyone today and reviewed the agenda

II.  Tentative Schedule of Meetings and Sections covered in each meeting
The tentative agenda below was reviewed, with the option of either voting on proposals as they arose at each meeting or waiting to the last meeting to vote on all proposals at once.  It was explained that the proposals would only be submitted together, and not in parts, so the consensus was to keep the voting at the last meeting as indicated below.  It was also discussed that an additional January meeting may be added to make sure all parts of the Golden Rule would be reviewed as there would not be a meeting in December due to Winter Break.

Representatives from Physical Plant, Montel Watson and Dick Paradise, were present and submitted for review a new Rules for Campus Signage proposal.  This was discussed first in the meeting.  The proposal is outlined below:

    DRAFT
    Rules for Campus Signage

Exterior signage is allowed for students sponsored activities, clubs and events to promote student participation.

    • Student organizations may use exterior signs to advertise activities, clubs, and events three times per semester.
    • All signs must be registered and properly “stickered”.  Stickers may be applied for at the Student Activities Office (407) 823-6471 and are issued by the director or his/her designee.  Stickers may only be issued for 5 days.
    • A maximum of three wood signs may be posted for advertising an activity, club or event.
    • All signs must be removed by the posting organization within 24 hours after the registered event or immediately after the fifth day.  Signs not removed within the specified timeframe will be removed by Physical Plant and a $50.00 per sign charge levied.  The sign will be released after the fine has been paid at the “Cashiers” office, and credited to Account # 2421000, object code #499000.
    • The placement of printed materials on vehicles, light posts, benches, trees and exterior doors are not permitted.

Signs must adhere to the following standards:

    • The maximum size of a sign is 4 feet by 4 feet.
    • Signs must be free standing and not staked into the ground or hung, fastened or attached to shrubbery, trees, and light posts.  Signs are not permitted in any street median.
    • All signage must be placed in a minimum of 50 feet from any intersection.
    • Signs can only be placed in locations designated on the UCF Signage Location Map.
    • Any signs in violation of any of the above stated regulations will be removed by Physical Plant and a $50.00 per sign charge levied.  The sign will be released after the fine has been paid at the “Cashiers” office, and credited to Account # 2421000, object code #499000.

These posting rule do not apply to Student Government elections.

This proposed change would replace the current policy, located under "Event Management" on page 35 of the 2000-2001 Golden Rule.

    • The proposed sign size change resulted from workers being injured trying to remove the larger 4 x 8 wooden signs, so they suggested 4 x 4.  These signs would be easier to pick up for physical plant staff.
    • Physical plant would like all signs to be free standing so as to not damage trees or shrubs (may cause disease in the plants); they would also prefer not use light posts as the posts are not structurally sound to hold the signs and may cause the poles and/or wires to break.
    • No signs in any medians is for traffic and pedestrian safety - signs in medians can block the line of sight for cars, increasing the chance for pedestrian injury or car accidents.
    • Physical plant would like to get away from real estate type signs and use free standing wooden signs.
    • This policy would not apply to the Greek Park area.
    • Physical plant would like for the students on the committee to consider coming up with a map to detail locations approved for signage, as students know the best areas where signage would have the highest visibility.  This is also to keep the aesthetics of the campus intact.  It was suggested that Physical Plant could also work with the Office of Student Activities on this.
Mr. Paradise noted all suggestions and may present a revised proposal at another meeting.
